DnD Social Skills Group

Hello! Finding a group of people to play DnD with can be intimidating. For some, it is even more challenging when there are struggles with anxiety or social cues. This is why Therapeutic Consultation’s Sam Secord (MA, LAMFT, LADC) hosts DnD Social Skills Groups!

Sam’s goal in these groups is to get people of similar ages together in a safe environment where they can explore potential friendships, social norms, and practice communication skills. Better yet, these skills can be practiced through the safe medium of a character! These groups are not group therapy; instead, they are groups led by a therapist who will encourage and coach skills work.

The skills work are bolstered by encouraging healthy interacitons through the positive reinforcement of roll modifiers and advantage given for risk taking. Sam wants group members to be able to take a risk and have the chance to redo social interactions without shaming or guilting the individual.

The “DnD Social Skills Groups” are usually 2.5-3 hours and last for 4-5 sessions. Group members are requested to commit to attending every session to encourage group cohesion.

The cost and inclusion

  • $50 a session and a commitment to the group series.

  • A painted miniature to represent their character.

  • Real-time coaching from a dual licensed therapist, Sam Secord.

  • A 25-minute consultation to assess what skills want to be worked on and what group placement makes the most sense.

    • Groups are based on DnD experience, age, and skills wanted to be worked on.
